WebRTC technology

Every day more than 3.2 out of 7 billion inhabitants of the Earth are constantly on the Internet. The use of smartphones and tablets is growing at an incredible pace, as today they can solve almost any problem. Improving the quality of communication is an inevitable need, which WebRTC technology is designed to satisfy.

WebRTC (short for Web Real-Time Communication) stands for Web-based communication in real time. This is an open standard for multimedia communication in real time, which works directly in a web browser. The platform on the open standard eliminates the need to download additional programs, add-ins and extensions. At the API level, WebRTC technology is standardized by the W3C consortium, and at the protocol level, by the IETF community.

WebRTC is an evolving technology implemented by a high-tech subsystem in Chrome and Firefox browsers. WebRTC is supported in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera. It was created in order to eliminate the risks to confidentiality in the availability of local services and multimedia streams.

WebRTC allows businesses to connect to the highest level of reliability and security, improving the quality of online meetings, video conferencing and similar services.

According to Disruptive Analysis analysts, by the end of 2018, the number of WebRTC users will reach 1 billion, and the number of smartphones, tablets and PCs with WebRTC support will grow to 4.7 billion.

Skype

Skype is the most popular video conferencing tool in the world. This program is already used by hundreds of millions of people, and this is an important competitive advantage of the service: it is not necessary to train employees to use it. The solution has at least two other strengths: free basic functionality and a sufficiently reliable method of encryption of transmitted data. Until Skype bought the company Microsoft, loyal to the cooperation of business with intelligence agencies, this tool for negotiations in the mode of video communication was used even by Italian Mafiosi.

Google + Hangouts

Google Hangouts – a powerful communication tool from the world’s leading Internet corporation, which replaced the previous service – Google Talk. With its help, you can conduct any meetings, negotiations with key customers, give instructions to employees working remotely. The window of an open application on the computer can be shown to the interlocutor. This eliminates the need for face-to-face meetings.

Hangouts allows conference participants to share files from Google Drive, collaborate on notes and documents, and save files on a shared virtual disk. There is even integration with the Google calendar, which allows the parties directly from the service window to schedule meetings with each other and share plans for the working week.

Sensible minus of the decision is that at the same time in the conference in Hangouts can participate no more than ten people. Every 150 minutes participants need to confirm their participation in the video call. Moreover, there is no paid version that removes this restriction. Google Apps users, however, are offered the opportunity to participate up to 15 people. The service is available on Android, iOS and all desktops on which Google Chrome can run – Hangouts for PC is presented as an extension to this browser.

ooVoo

The appearance of this application, available for the platforms Windows, Mac and Android, does not have to business communication. However, in business, this free service shows itself well. It allows video conferences with 12 participants at the same time. The messenger also has the ability to share files (limit by size – up to 25 MB), record and send video, communicate via text messages. Any video recorded using the application can be sent to YouTube in one click.

If you log in to the service via Facebook, then the contacts book will automatically be replenished with friends who already use this solution. You can invite them to “talk” directly from Facebook.

Another useful feature is the ability to “build” “video chat rooms” directly on their websites, blogs or social networks. Clicking on the link of this room to each invited participant allows you to immediately join in the online conversation. A convenient way to assign video calls.

TokBox

This free video conferencing service right inside the web pages can rightly be considered one of the most advanced and devoid of internal limitations. This is an API-service that can be embedded on any site, social network page or even inside a native mobile application. At the same time, it allows you to communicate simultaneously to several thousand users – if only the computer resources and the width of the Internet channel allow. Limitation only in the number of video streams on one page – there cannot be more than 20.

With the help of TokBox on any site, you can arrange several virtual “meeting rooms”, available through various links. You want to communicate with customers “face to face” –  send the right people a link to one page. You want to hold a workshop among marketers – send them a link to another “room.”

Such a solution is ideally suited for technical support services (each operator will work in his “room” and serve lined up customers in order), consultants in online stores, etc.

GoToMeeting

GoToMeeting – perhaps, one of the most famous services for video conferencing. Citrix Systems Corporation developed it in 2004. Now the service is available for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android users. It allows you to communicate simultaneously to 25 participants. Anyone of them can provide colleagues with access to their desktop or a separate document, the edits to which can be made in real time. Here you can also exchange text messages, draw on shared boards. In order to invite someone to participate in the conversation, just send him an email notification with a hyperlink.

Cisco WebEx

This service was developed by the engineers of one of the world’s leading companies working in the field of Internet communications. The functions here are almost identical to the capabilities of GoToMeeting. But here all the participants in the meeting can be divided into an organizer, active actors and passive spectators. The organizer has the opportunity to manage 1 GB of “cloud” space, where you can store the necessary documents for work.
